Crochet Forum Posting Rules and Tutorial

At 4Crafter.com we have a specific set of Rules which must be complied with when creating a new thread in any given forum. We ask that all Members take time prior to posting a new thread to read these rules so that their thread complies with the Rules. Below you will find Posting Rules as they pertain to creating a new thread in the Crochet Forums. Additional Rules may apply and we ask that you also take time when you first post to familiarize yourself with all of these Rules by visiting the Forum Rules section

New Crochet Thread Rules
- Attachment must be in the correct Forum. Free items are housed in their own special area and must be posted there.
- Prior to uploading a new Attachment please be sure that there are no errors in the Attachment(s).
- All attachments must be clear and easy to read.
- Illegible files will be removed. Do not post files that are blurry. If you find an attachment that is not legible please report it to the Forum Moderator for removal.
- We do not accept converted e-books which do not have page numbers and are large in size. These are impossible to moderate
- We do not accept individual patterns from books, magazines or pamphlets except in special cases
If the original source is vintage and or no longer available as a ful edition
If a pattern is published in a non craft related book or magazine such as womens magazines, journals or newspapers
If the instructions are being sold individually outside of a publication. The attachment must be the individual item and not ripped from a publication.Magazines with ads removed
There may be other reasons where an individual resoure is permitted.

Attachment Names will be permitted in their native Languages except Chinese or similiar Languages, which is blocked.
Be advised that Members who download Attachments that do not have an English name may have issues opening it. If you have an issue simply rename the file to something in English.
The Attachment content or text may be in another Language.

Image and Attachment Restrictions: Members may not, at any time, post any content regardless of type, that is considered adult or mature in theme. Images and or Attachments that are not "PG" rated or suitable for a young individual to see are forbidden. These posts will be removed and the offending Member may lose their posting priveledges permanently. Do not link to image outside of our Domain. Images which are hateful or otherwise inappropriate will be removed.

File Formats:

.ZIP and .RAR
These files are acceptable for upload. Please be sure the files inside of these types of archives named in English. The content within a given file may be in other Languages but the actual file names must be in English.
Use .ZIP and .RAR files when you need to upload multiple files to complete a Pattern or a file type is not a .PDF file. Examples of this would be when you have image instructions that are in .JPG format. Instead of uploading multiple .JPG files please do place them in an archive file for easier download.

When you have a file larger than the current allowed Attachment Limit you may spread your file into multiple .RAR files, each equal to or slightly less than the current file size limit.
The current File Size limit is: 10mb

To Learn how to use WinRar to create .RAR files please see the following Tutorial
WinRar Tutorial

.PDF
Adobe PDF or Portable Data Files are acceptable and the preferred type of file for this forum. Please be sure the file name is in English regardless of the language the Attachment is in.

.DOC and .DOCX No longer permitted
These file formats are not acceptable please convert these to a PDF.

.JPG and .PNG
These files are acceptable to share but they must be first archived as either a .ZIP or .RAR file. Please do not upload individual .JPG or .PNG files as attachments to be downloaded for the purpose of instructions as these will simply be added to the thread itself and viewable by all.
.JPG files are acceptable as individual files when uploading an image of the attachment you are sharing also known as a Cover Image.
Watermarks or Embedded URLs: Images of any type that contain a Watermark from another Forum, Site or have advertisements or a URL in them are not permitted that is not the Designers own URL or Watermark. Please find a new image to use a Cover Image.
If the Watermark or URL is from the Designer or Company they will be permitted.

Please do not upload the following file types as attachments to be used as a Pattern or Attachment (not a Cover Image).
.GIF which are often poorer quality images, .JPG is preferred
.DOC, .DOCX - no longer permitted, please convert to a PDF prior to uploading.
.DJVU, .EPUB, .MOBI or any other type of e-book file other than .PDF are not permitted. Please convert these files to an acceptable format prior to uploading.

Additional Form Information Required
In some Forums, particularly Cross Stitch, Crochet and Knitting you will find that additional information may be required when you create a new Thread that is not in other Forums, the Tutorial below will identify which information is required in a Form. Please fill out this information to the best of your ability. This helps to identify additional information about an Attachment such as the Designer name, actual Language it is in, attachment formal name when in other languages and the degree of difficulty.

Body of Thread
In the Body of the Thread please post the following Information:
Image of the item being attached
Any additional information that you would like to share that is not already posted in the Form.
Sizing- When patterns are in multiple sizes please put the Attachment / Thread in the Size that would be the smallest. This is most common with Clothing. Accessories, regardless of sizes belong in the Accessories Category. Please note the size or sizes of the pattern in your thread.
If the attachment was taken from a Magazine or Book please indicated the Publication Name, publication Date, Issue, Page numbers the attachment may be found on.
*Please do not post individual patterns from a Magazine, Book or Pamphlet that has already been uploaded to the Forum which are considered a complete product.

How to find the Designer - This is also often found by merely looking at the Instructions or Pattern itself. Searching Google or Bing with the actual Pattern Name may also help you identify the Designer or Company.
If you have made every effort to find the Designer Name but can not, Please use: Designer Unknown

Cover Image
- Please include a Cover Image that clearly displays what the Attachment Contains. Please do not hot link images from other sites for any reason. Always upload the image yourself by clicking \"Add Image\".
Images that contain a Watermark from another Forum, Site, advertising or a URL are not permitted. A watermark that consists of a Designers Name or Company is acceptable. Do not hot link or link to images hosted outside of our domain.
Please use Google to find a replacement image that does not contain this information or your Thread may be permanently deleted or create your own from the attachment.

*Please note that if the Designer or Name of Pattern is on the Pattern or Instructions the Thread will be modified to reflect the correct information. Repeated failure to correctly identify Attachments when the information is readily available may result in a negative rating on your behalf.

Prices and Associated Fees
Members may charge other Members for Attachments. In an effort to keep costs down we have restricted the Maximum Amount a Member may charge for an Attachment.
Currently the maximum amount any given Member may charge is 40 Diamonds for an Attachment Total. If a thread contains multiple attachments you may only charge an accumulated total of 40 Diamonds, prices which exceed the allowed amount will be reduced to fit our Rules.
Exceptions to Fees:
Patterns or Attachments which are deemed available for Free: 15 Diamonds Maximum Total
Patterns which have been previously printed in a Magazine or Book (see below) when permitted: 5 Diamonds Maximum Total

Moderators may, at their own discretion, modify the amount a Member is charging in the case of excessive fees. This is for the benefit of the Site and Forum as a Whole. Because we are a Sharing Community greed is not an option.
Earning Diamonds daily is not a difficult task but Members are expected to not make these tasks more dreadful or tiresome simply because they desire to have more Diamonds than their equally important Member. Members are not required to set a Fee for any Attachment Thread they create. This is simply an option we extend to our Members for their time and effort in uploading new content.

The maximum amount a Member can currently earn when setting a price on an Attachment or Thread is 500 Diamonds.
After a Member has earned 500 Diamonds from a given Attachment, the remainder of the Diamonds is given back to the Forum System. The Fee set on an Attachment will not change. If you have asked a fee to download an Attachment Members must still pay that but you will not earn any extra Diamonds after the 500 Diamonds earned on that specific Thread. You will continue to earn Diamonds on individual new Threads that you charge a fee for until the 500 Diamonds Limit is met on a new Thread.

Please refrain from charging a Fee associated to View a Topic / Thread with the exception of written Tutorials. If there are a certain Group you\'d prefer not see a specific Attachment please use the \"Read Permissions\" before posting your new Thread and set your permissions to at least 20. We do allow Members to charge to view a Thread but it must not cost any Member more than 5 Diamonds to view a thread.

As the site is growing and establishing itself the allowed amount a Member may charge may be changed. Until these amounts are changed by the Administrators of this forum, please do not beg to have them increased as it will not happen. When and if Pricing is allowed to be increased or has been increased Members will know by seeing an Update in the Communications area of this Forum under Rules.

To summarize the Following Maximum Fees are allowed:
Attachments which are not Free: Up to 40 Diamonds
Attachments that are considered Free: Up to 15 Diamonds Total.
Written Tutorial View Fee - Members may charge up to 5 Diamonds to view a Thread when the Tutorial is within the Thread and downloading an Attachment is not required.
*The Maximum amount of Diamonds that can be earned from an individual Thread or Attachment is 750 Diamonds. All Diamonds earned over 500 will be returned to the System.

Please Remember that Attachments must be 10MB or smaller. Please use WinRAR to create Archive Sets when files are larger than 10MB+ or Winzip for a single archive.

Written Tutorials
A written tutorial is defined as a tutorial that does not have an attachment and the instructions are clearly written out in a Thread.
Because the primary language of this site is English we ask that all written Tutorials or Instructions be written in English and all units of measure be in English. Some Metric is permitted in the case of certain Crafts such as Crochet, where hook sizes are often measured in Metric.
Tutorial Rules are as follows:
- Tutorial must completely be written in English.
- Tutorial must be easy to read
- All directions in the Tutorial must be complete
- Must contain an image depicting the item in the Tutorial.
- May not contain links to outside Sites, Forums or otherwise.
Members may charge a nominal View Thread Price of up to, but more than 5 Diamonds, if they wish. This is not a requirement. Members who charge more than the nominal Fee will have the fee reduced and or removed.

*When a Member fails to comply with the Posting Rules and all Rules of this Site and Forum the Thread and or Attachments may be either Moved or Removed. Members will receive a PM with an explanation for any action taken and given the opportunity to correct their errors in the future. Members who re-register after receiving a Ban may face having all accounts permanently blocked as well as their IP address. Protect your account by complying with the Site and Forum rules.

**Members who are Supporting Members may have special access to areas of  our Forum that standard Members may not, this may include very special Attachments or other value added items as deemed by the Owner of this Site and Forum.**

Step by Step Tutorial Posting Tutorial - Crochet Forums
Members are required to know and understand all Posting Rules as outlined above and any additional Rules which may be listed in the Rules Forum.
Failure to follow our Posting Rules and Tutorial may result in your Thread being deleted. Outlined below is a step by step tutorial that explains to our Members how to properly create a new thread with an attachment in the Crochet Forums. Because each Forum is different and may require different information, we have created individualized Tutorials to help Members identify what information is required as well as what information is permitted and not permitted. This tutorials is specifically for the Crochet Forums. Please take time to read and review all information and Rules so that your new thread is accurate. If you have any questions or concerns or need assistance in creating a new thread please contact any of our Staff Members for assistance or post a Help Request in the Help Request Forum.

Step 1 - Search For Existing Threads
Duplicate files or Threads are frowned upon and not permitted on our Forums. Members are required to search the Forums prior to Posting to ensure that the new thread they are creating does not already exist. While our basic Search does show images with the Search Results please be aware that it only searches on the information based in the Title of the Thread. Members are instead encouraged to use the Advanced Search function when looking searching for an existing pattern or attachment. Searching for a previously posted item is quick and easy and outlined in the Advanced Search Guide

Step 2 - Determine File Type and Forum Category
After you have searched to ensure your attachment(s) do not already exisit you must determine where an attachment  belongs and if it is deemed either a Pattern or a Magazine, Book or Pamphlet.

Magazines, Books vs. Pamphlets, Patterns and Designs in Crochet Forums
*Please note that all Pamphlets should be uploaded to their correct Craft Forum and no longer uploaded to the Magazines and Book Forums. The information provided is still required and should be put in the body of the Thread.

A Magazine, Book or Pamphlet is defined as a something that has been printed on paper or is availble in paper form in and Digital format and often contain multiple instructions instead of 1 individual Pattern or Design. Scanned items are almost always considered to be a Magazine, Book or Pamphlet because it was originally in print form from a Publisher. Magazines or Books which are complete in nature should always be placed in the Magazine Section of  Forum. Individual Patterns from a Magazine or Book should be placed in the individual Crafting Forums as long as the entire Magazine, Book or Pamphlet has not already been added to the Forums. You must indicated in an individual Pattern from these types of sources the Name, Issue, Publisher and pages the Pattern was found on in the Body of the Thread. See Note below
Examples:
Magazine Crochet World, Creative Knitting -  Magazines tend to come out on Monthly, Bi-Monthly, Annually or any other specific period of time. Magazines can be in Digital format as well as printed on paper.
Book 100 Lace Flowers to Crochet. Books are printed books which have been either scanned by an individual or are available in both Digital and Print media.
Books, Magazines and Pamphlets have ISBN numbers assigned to them.

Pamphlets, Patterns or Designs:
A Pattern is a design created by an individual and is solely in PDF format (as well as other Document File types) and can not be obtained in a paper printed media format. Patterns sometimes are also published on a Web Site or Blog. A Pattern often contains a specific set of instructions for a specific item or several items contained in one PDF or Images representing each page. Patterns do not have ISBN numbers assigned to them.

Pamphlet Annies Attic Baby Christening Set , Cute Critter Purses -  Pamphlets are booklets (a small book with few pages) that have been scanned into Images or converted images to PDF files. The usually do have ISBN numbers.

*NOTE:When uploading and Invididual Pattern that is part of a Magazine or Book but not the entire Magazine or Book, in any Language, it should be placed in the appropriate Category.
Examples: Cross Stitch Magazine individual Patterns and Pamphlets belong in the Cross Stitch Scan and correct Category. A single Crochet Pattern from a Magazine should be placed in Crochet under it's correct Category. This will be true of all Magazines.
When Posting a Magazine Pattern and not the entire Magazine or Book, please include the Magazine/Book name and Publication Date or Issue Date as well as Page numbers if known. If the Magazine/Book already exists in the Forum it may not be uploaded as it is considered a duplicate.

Pattern Examples:
Penguin Blanket , Whirlwind

Once you have determined the file type (Pattern, Pamphlet, Book, Magazine) You may select the proper Forum and Category your new thread belongs in.
Step 3 - Create a New Thread
Click on New and Thread to create a new Thread. Certain User Groups may see other options such as a Poll or Event, when adding a new Thread with an Attachment you will always use the "Thread" option in the drop down box when other options appear

To access this special search simply click on the last tab in the categories list which indicates English Crochet Pattern. All other Forums will have the same type of search feature and will always be the last "tab" of Categories. Step 8 - Upload Image/Cover Imagein Body of Thread

After clicking Upload Image a new pop-up will appear that should show you directories of your computer. Click on the file you wish to upload and then click Open to start uploading your Image.

When the Image has completed uploading you will see this pop-up. Add a description if you wish. You may also save the image one of your personal Albums.

Step 9 - Upload the Attachment
Now you will need to upload the Attachment to your Thread. To upload an Attachment click on the Attach Button at the top of the Body of the Thread area.
The pop-up looks like this:

Once you have found the file that you wish to upload, select it and click OK in the same manner you did for uploading an Image.

After the maximum allowed amount is met you will not recieve any more Diamonds from Members who pay for the Attachment. This may change in the future and will be announced if it does change.

Step 10 - Optional Additional Information and Restrictions
